Greater Shepparton City Council (GSCC) is committed to ensuring that our community remains a safe and welcoming place for residents, businesses and visitors.
Council is seeking feedback from the community to better understand perceptions of safety, assess current safety measures, and identify potential areas for improvement.
Your voice plays a key role in shaping a safer Greater Shepparton. By participating in this consultation, you will help us:
- Understand how safe people feel in different areas of Greater Shepparton
- Identify locations where safety improvements may be needed
- Evaluate the effectiveness of various safety measures in public spaces, including CCTV cameras
- Explore additional strategies to create a safer environment for all
This consultation has been initiated following a Council resolution to review the effectiveness of the Safer City Camera Network (CCTV).
The Safer City Camera Network consists of 60 CCTV cameras located throughout the Shepparton CBD, Victoria Park Lake, and the Sports Precinct. This project is a partnership between GSCC and Victoria Police, and aims to assist with the detection of, and Victoria Police response to, antisocial behaviour and crime.
This community consultation forms part of this review process.
The resolution directed Council to:
- Produce a report that reviews the effectiveness of the current Greater Shepparton CCTV camera network and includes costings and feasibility of implementing a second stage of the program.
- Conduct public consultation across all of Greater Shepparton as part of the review process.
- Review relevant Safer City Camera Network Memorandums of Understanding within three months, with a view to continuing these partnerships.
Have your say
During the community consultation period, residents, businesses, and visitors are encouraged to share their views and help shape the future of safety in Greater Shepparton.
The results of this consultation will be carefully considered as part of Council's broader safety review. Insights gathered from the survey will guide decisions about the future of the Safer City Camera Network.
The survey takes less than five minutes to complete, and your responses will remain confidential.
