Resource Recovery Centres (previously known as transfer stations and tips) are located at Ardmona, Murchison and Shepparton. They allow residents to dispose of household waste and recyclables not appropriate for household bins.

Results

Back in May 2025, a community survey was undertaken as part of the Resource Recovery Department’s commitment to continuous improvement. The results provided valuable insight into how customers access and utilise the centres, in addition to their experience when at the Centre disposing of materials.

The responses included 283 individual online survey submissions. To read a summary of the responses from the community, please download the Community Engagement Report below:

Council wants to understand how you use the Resource Recovery Centres:

Which one do you go to?
How often do you visit?
What do you take there?
What are some barriers for use?

Resource recovery is the process of separating materials from waste that can be recycled into new products with the goal to divert as much waste as possible from landfill.

It is an important action in creating a circular economy where the value of products, materials and resources is maintained in the economy for as long as possible, and the generation of waste is minimised.

Resource recovery means sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products for as long as possible.

There are three stages to resource recovery.

  • Waste Collection: Waste materials are collected from households, businesses, or industries.
  • Sorting and Segregation: Once collected, the waste is sorted to separate different types of materials.
  • Processing: After sorting, the separated materials undergo further processing.
