Council is preparing a submission to VicGrid regarding the proposed Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) for the Central North region.
The proposed Central North REZ has two sections – a western section between Bendigo and Tatura and a new eastern section between Shepparton and Glenrowan.
As part of Victoria’s plan to transition to clean energy, the REZ is designed to guide where new solar and wind projects could be developed in the future.
We want to hear from you
We want to understand what matters most to our community when it comes to clean energy development and the proposed REZ. Your feedback will directly inform Council’s submission to VicGrid, helping shape how renewable energy developments are planned and implemented, particularly in the eastern section between Shepparton and Glenrowan.
Your input will help Council advocate for outcomes that reflect local values and priorities. By taking part, you’re contributing to a balanced and evidence-based approach to renewable energy in Greater Shepparton.
Over the past few years, VicGrid has led state-wide consultation on the Victorian Transmission Plan (VTP) and proposed REZs.
Earlier community input from the Goulburn region played a key role in reshaping the Central North REZ. Feedback provided in the previous round of consultation directly contributed to VicGrid redrawing the boundary west of Tatura to avoid high-value irrigation farmland.
However, the latest proposal includes a new eastern section between Shepparton and Glenrowan, which has been added in the final stages of the VTP. Because this area was not included in the draft plan, affected landholders and communities have not yet had the same opportunity to provide input.
Council believes direct, meaningful engagement is critical and would like to further explore community views on the proposed Central North REZ.
We invite residents, landholders, and businesses across Greater Shepparton to share their awareness of the proposed REZ, their views on the consultation process, and the importance of protecting productive agricultural farmland.
This survey is an opportunity for the community to have its say on the proposed REZ, helping Council capture local perspectives and insights.
